What should I do to maintain the batteries in my Royal-EV Golf Cart?

Batteries should be checked on a regular basis. The company recommends every month. To check the Batteries simply undo the caps and check the water levels. The proper water level is just over the "fins" in the battery. If the batteries are low, add distilled water only to just over the fins being careful not to spill any water on the batteries. Gloves and eye protection are highly recommended when performing this task. Use distilled water only which can be bought at any WalMart. The battery terminals need to always be tight. Check them and if loose do not over tighten. Tighten only to where nut is snug on terminal. Make sure the wrench you use does not touch a positive and other metal or the negative cable at the same time. Make sure clamp holding battery pack down is also snug. Do not over tighten. Battery cables should be kept clean of corrosion.

Can I keep my cart on a charger at all times when not in use?

Yes. The charger in your Royal-Ev "floats" meaning it will turn on and off when it recognizes a dissipation in the batteries and shut off when fully charged.

How long will my batteries last?

Generally the batteries in your cart should last 5 years or more if maintained properly. The warranty on the batteries is 18 months from the purchase of the cart

How fast will my cart go?

The weight being carried and the terrain will determine the top speed of your cart.

Generally the cart will achieve speeds of between 21 and 25 mph oh flat terrain.

Is my Royal-EV able to go off road?

The golf cart is not a substitution for an off road vehicle designed for rough terrain. However, the carts can be safely driven off road such as pastures and gravel or dirt roads. Extreme care should be used when driving the golf cart anywhere especially on dirt of gravel roads or pastures that could present hidden dangers such as holes or large objects.

Can I use an extension cord along with charging cable?

No. Extension cords should not be used to charge the cart. Using an extension cord can cause the cart to not charge properly and could cause a fire.

Is my cart street legal?

Royal-EV carts are street legal with regards to the lights, hazards, blinkers, brake lights, horn, seat belts, and windshield. However, the requirements for a golf cart to be street legal depends on the municipality it's being operated in. For instance, some places in Florida require a manual windshield wiper, extra reflectors, and a orange hazard triangle to be installed on the cart before it can be operated on streets that permit golf carts which are generally 25 mph or less. In some states golf carts are required to be registered and tagged as low speed vehicles. Royal-EV makes this easier because it is able to issue a 17 digit VIN number which is a requirement to actually obtain a license plate in the state that require it.

How do I know when I need to charge my cart?

In the manual you will see the explanation of the digital dash. The digital dash indicates the approximate battery charge. However, if your cart is slowing down your batteries may need charging. Golf carts cannot run on less than fifty percent charge. So when your charging indicator says about sixty percent, pay careful attention to your car and if it's losing speed or power, that means your batteries need to be charged soon. Low voltage is the worst scenario for an electric golf cart. It can cause battery cables to melt and other problems.

If I do run the batteries down and the cart won't move, what do I do?

The cart has a toggle switch under the seat which needs to be flipped to the neutral position. This will enable you to push the cart easily to get it off the road, home, or towed. When the cart is fully charged turn the switch back to the non-to mode/run position. The cart will not run unless the switch is turned back.

How should I clean my cart?

With an electric cart, you should be careful to not spray direct water on the controller or on the battery compartment. Do not use a pressure washer to wash the outside. Royal-ev recommends a regular garden hose with sprayer on the end, soap and water for the outside of the cart. Batteries can be cleaned with microfiber cloth and cleaning spray. High velocity water spraying should not be used on any part of the cart. Do not use any abrasive cleaners on the body as it can scratch the body and the windshield.

From a height standpoint, will the cart fit in my garage?

Generally the answer is yes. However, in some homes that are older the garage height can be lower making it questionable as to whether a lifted cart can make it in the garage.

Where can I get parts for my cart and service?

Royal-EV or your local dealer can supply parts and service. Royal-EV recommends only qualified technicians should work on the cart or the warranty can be voided.

What other risks should I be aware of?

The major risk in a golf cart is rollover. Just because it's a golf cart doesn't mean you can't get hurt. Great care should be taken when traveling up or down steep hills. Going downhill to fast and trying to turn can cause rollover and severe injury or death. Royal-EV strongly recommends slowing down to a safe speed when turning in/or on uneven terrain to prevent rollover.
